Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine Celebrates Class Of 2020

One out of every 20 U.S. veterinarians is a Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine graduate

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts--()--The veterinary workforce continues to experience shortages in both large- and small-animal practice. According to the American Veterinary Medical Association, nearly 20% of veterinarians are expected to retire in the next decade1. Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine (RUSVM) continues to fill that need, with 377 students participating in the recent graduation ceremony. This brings the total number of RUSVM alumni to nearly 6,000.

“With a strong focus on the connection between human, environmental and animal health, also known as One Health, RUSVM graduates have knowledge that is particularly valuable during the current global pandemic,” said Sean Callanan, MVB, CERTVR, MRCVS, Ph.D., FRCPATH, DIPLECVP, dean of RUSVM. “With RUSVM alumni practicing in nearly every U.S. state and many other countries, our graduates are ready to make a positive impact on the communities in which they live and serve.”

RUSVM Class of 2020 graduates were recently honored in a virtual commencement ceremony. Banfield Pet Hospital’s Chief Medical Officer and Senior Vice President of Veterinary Affairs, Dr. Molly McAllister, DVM, MPH, served as keynote speaker for the event.

“Pets improve people’s lives,” McAllister said. “In this time of social distancing, the disruption of our routines and our support systems, pets have never been more important. Providing essential care to them in this time of crisis in the world around us has truly made people’s lives better.”

In addition to small-animal practice, many RUSVM graduates serve in large-animal practice, emergency medicine and specialty animal care. These high-demand fields demonstrate RUSVM’s commitment to filling critical workforce needs, a mission that is supported by RUSVM’s parent company, Adtalem Global Education.
