Two Bit Circus Foundation and Imagination.org Celebrate Vans Checkerboard Day and $1M Donation with a Cardboard Challenge At Two Bit Circus

Leaders in Creative Play Help Find, Foster and Fund Creativity and Entrepreneurship in Kids Around the World

LOS ANGELES--()--Two Bit Circus Foundation and Imagination.org, the leaders in creative play working to find, foster, and fund creativity and entrepreneurship, will host a Cardboard Challenge in support of Vans Checkerboard Day $1 million donation of global sales made through the brand’s owned retail locations and Vans.com on Nov. 21, 2019. The event will happen on Sunday, Nov. 17, 2019, from 2 to 5 pm at Two Bit Circus Micro-Amusement Park in Downtown LA.

At the Cardboard Challenge, children of all ages will be able to build anything they imagine out of cardboard. Vans Senior Manager of Sustainability and Social Responsibility Kim Matsoukas and teen inventor Caine Monroy, of the overwhelmingly successful short film Caine’s Arcade, who built an arcade out of cardboard, will be in attendance and inspiring hands-on creativity and expression.

The event will help build momentum to Vans Checkerboard Day, the global initiative held on Nov. 21, 2019 that brings communities together to celebrate and champion creative expression. With Vans’ support, Imagination.org, powered by Two Bit, plans to launch 100 new global Imagination Chapters, provide Chapter Leaders with more trainings, tools and resources, and so much more.

Why Cardboard?

Cardboard is found everywhere and can easily be painted, drawn on, bent, glued together, and turned into anything you want it to be. It’s also free, environmentally responsible, and available to almost everyone. Could cardboard become STEAM education’s most valued resource and important tool? For education facilities that lack adequate funds, something as simple as a cardboard box can inspire a world of imagination and creativity. With the support of Vans Checkerboard Day, Two Bit Circus Foundation and Imagination.org intend to build on that.

These efforts also include the distribution of 300 Imagination kits, with materials from not only Vans but recycling nonprofit Trash for Teaching and cardboard construction system Makedo. Over 150 Imagination.org chapters will receive region-customized kits to kick start their own Vans Checkerboard Day activities.
