The Rite Aid Foundation Donates $75,000 to Support Wildfire Relief Efforts in California

CAMP HILL, Pa.--()--The Rite Aid Foundation announced today a $75,000 donation, which will be distributed to the American Red Cross Los Angeles Region and American Red Cross Northern California Coastal Region to support wildfire relief efforts.

“The devastating and destructive fires that have wreaked havoc in California during the past few weeks have forced thousands of residents up and down the state to flee their homes and destroyed more than a quarter-million acres of land,” said Tracy Henderson, director of The Rite Aid Foundation and charitable giving initiatives. “Our thoughts are with the all those who have been impacted by these destructive fires. The Rite Aid Foundation hopes today’s donation provides some relief and comfort as Californians look to rebuild their homes and lives.”

The $75,000 donation will be divided to help relief efforts in Northern and Southern California:

  • American Red Cross Los Angeles
  • American Red Cross Northern California Coastal Region

$50,000
$25,000

“We appreciate compassionate supporters like The Rite Aid Foundation whose donation is enabling the Red Cross to provide shelter, food, and emotional and recovery support to families impacted by this year’s wildfires,” said Elizabeth Penniman, vice president of communications at the American Red Cross.

During the last three weeks, more than two dozen wildfires have ignited throughout the state of California. Most of those fires have been contained or extinguished. Among the biggest threats were the Getty fire, which ignited in Los Angeles near the neighborhood of Sherman Oaks threatening 10,000 structures, and the Kincade fire, which forced the evacuation of 200,000 residents in Sonoma County.

Along with government and community partners, dozens of American Red Cross disaster workers have helped open shelters and evacuation centers for those fleeing the fires. Since the latest wildfires broke out, the organization has provided 4,900 overnight shelter stays and served meals to over 10,000 people.
