Chef Earns Microsoft DevOps Gold Competency for Ability to Accelerate Coded Enterprises’ Microsoft Azure Migrations

Chef Enterprise Automation Stack helping customers modernize applications with end of support for Windows Server 2008 and SQL Server 2008

SEATTLE--()--Chef, the leader in DevOps, today announced that it has achieved the Microsoft DevOps Gold Competency, building on the two companies’ long history of collaboration and their shared vision to enable the rise of the Coded Enterprise. The recognition comes in advance of Microsoft's end-of-support for Windows Server 2008 and SQL Server 2008, which Chef customers are citing as a strong driver for use of Chef Enterprise Automation Stack (EAS).

Microsoft DevOps Gold Competency attainment demonstrates Chef’s deep commitment to meeting customers’ need to manage their infrastructure, security and application dependencies as code. It is the highest recognition awarded to Microsoft DevOps partners helping customers define, build, manage and release software in the cloud and on-premises using Microsoft developer tools including Azure DevOps and Application Insights.

“The Chef Enterprise Automation Stack gives clients a single path to production for newly-created and legacy applications that are being migrated into Azure,” said Jason Krech, Director at Perficient. “It provides a seamless code pipeline for all applications, security policies and underlying infrastructure components and treats the entire stack as code, future-proofing their newly-migrated environments. This capability is needed more now than ever, with the end-of-life and end-of-support for Windows Server 2008 coming in January 2020.”

Eduardo Kassner, One Commercial Partner group at Microsoft Corp., said, “Microsoft and Chef share a vision for enabling the rise of the coded enterprise by managing the entire application stack as code, so customers can accelerate their migrations into Microsoft Azure.”

Chef EAS for Windows Server 2008 and SQL Server 2008 Migration

Chef Enterprise Automation Stack (EAS), unifies previously distinct solutions — Chef Automate, Chef Infra, Chef InSpec, Chef Habitat and Chef Workstation — to create a seamless transition from establishing compliance through application automation. EAS can be used to modernize and migrate applications into Azure quickly and easily — a critical capability for organizations working to migrate applications from Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 R2 to Azure.

New capabilities within EAS give enterprises the ability to scan, extract and package legacy applications and their dependencies, using source control repositories like GitHub, and deliver them via pipelines such as Azure DevOps. Customers can deploy these application packages in Azure and run continuous security and compliance scans against them, empowering them to manage their newly migrated applications in the same way as apps built for the cloud. This gives them a single path to production for both newly built and legacy applications and lets them continue updating their newly migrated environment in the future by treating the entire stack as code.

“Chef has had a long-standing relationship with Microsoft that goes back nearly 10 years, managing both Windows Server and Microsoft Azure,” said Vikram Ghosh, VP of Business Development at Chef. “This collaboration allows our mutual customers to benefit from not only our deep technology collaboration but also our joint go-to-market and customer-focused programs that ultimately help solve challenges around DevOps, DevSecOps and migrations into Azure.”
