Provocative Films Tackle Prison Design, Twin Towers Engineering, Creative Process and More at the Architecture & Design Film Festival in NYC Through October 21

NEW YORK--()--The Architecture & Design Film Festival - the nation’s largest film festival devoted to the subject - is now open for its 10th season at Cinépolis Chelsea (260 West 23rd Street) in New York. Taking place from October 16-21, ADFF: NY presents a captivating line-up of feature-length and short films celebrating the work and creative process behind the world’s most famous designers and important issues affecting the built environment. In addition to the films, curated by Festival Founder and Director Kyle Bergman, the event offers architecture and design enthusiasts unparalleled access to filmmakers and legendary industry figures through panel discussions, Q&As and more.

Five key films to watch at this year’s ADFF: NY include:

Leaning Out
The World Premiere of a moving documentary by Basia and Leonard Myszynski that tells the neglected story of Twin Towers structural engineer Leslie E Robertson. It shares his journey as a young engineer who oversaw the construction of the tallest building on the planet, haunted by its collapse and the events of 9/11 ever since.

Renzo Piano: The Architect of Light
The film is a reflection on the creative process between two contemporary geniuses: Spanish director Carlos Saura and Italian architect Renzo Piano. The documentary will screen on Sunday, October 21 as part of the festival’s Closing Night.

Frank Gehry: Building Justice
The World Premiere of a film directed by Ultan Guilfoyle that looks at reforming the criminal justice system through the point of view of design. It’s the story of philanthropist George Soros and architect Frank Gehry’s investigation into prison design with students at Sci-Arc in LA and Yale.

Mies On Scene: Barcelona In Two Acts
A film that follows Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and Lilly Reich in their design of the German Pavilion for the Barcelona International Exhibition of 1929 one of the most famous architectural works of the 20th century. Directed by Xavi Campreciós & Pep Martín.

Design Canada
Directed by Greg Durrell, the film follows the transformation of Canada from a colonial outpost to a vibrant and multicultural society through the lens of graphic design.
