ATHENA, the First Voice-Operated Assistant for Machine Tools, to be Showcased at IMTS Emerging Technology Center Booth

CHICAGO--()--ATHENA, a revolutionary new technology that enables operators to interact with machine tools using simple voice commands, will be on display at AMT’s Emerging Technology Center (ETC) booth at the upcoming IMTS 2018 – The International Manufacturing Technology Show – at McCormick Place in Chicago, IL on September 10 -15, 2018.

Developed by manufacturing technology incubator iTSpeeX, ATHENA brings unprecedented connectivity and compatibility to the manufacturing industry. The ATHENA technology is unique because it resides on a local, on-premise computer, eliminating the costs and security issues often associated with Internet-based voice-operated systems. Additionally, it can work on a variety of different machines, regardless of brand. As a result, ATHENA has the potential to be a true industry standard for assistant technology.

“AMT’s ETC is renowned for showcasing state of the art and disruptive technologies that are impacting the manufacturing industry,” said Peter Eelman, Vice President, Exhibitions & Business Development, AMT – The Association For Manufacturing Technology. “We are pleased to partner with iTSpeeX to give the more than 100,000 registrants expected at IMTS 2018 a first-hand look at the exciting new ATHENA technology.”

Debuted fourteen years ago at IMTS 2004, AMT’s Emerging Technology Center is dedicated to educating, informing, and exciting the manufacturing community.

“The ETC is a ‘must visit’ for all IMTS show attendees,” said ATHENA Chief Architect Dan Bagley. “We are thrilled to bring our revolutionary technology to this important stage at one of the world’s largest manufacturing trade shows.”

The integration of ATHENA can address industry-wide challenges including a severe shortage of skilled workers. By providing a simple, common interface, ATHENA can significantly reduce the time and investment required to train novice machinists while making the most of the talents of skilled operators.

“In developing ATHENA, iTSpeeX wanted to help manufacturers maintain our commitment to machinists,” Bagley continued. “ATHENA is representative of the kind of innovation our industry needs to attract a new generation of machinists and push manufacturing into a bright future.”
