Maryland Tech Council Announces Departure of CEO Tami Howie

GAITHERSBURG, Md.--()--The Maryland Tech Council, the state’s largest trade association supporting biotechnology and innovation in the state of Maryland, today announced that Tami Howie, Chief Executive Officer, is returning to her professional roots as a law partner at DLA Piper, effective August 18.

“I have been honored to serve as the CEO of the Maryland Tech Council and to be part of the team that has built it to what it is today. I look forward to assisting the state of Maryland achieve its innovation objectives in my new role at DLA Piper,” stated Tami Howie.

As the MTC Board assesses the leadership needs of the organization, the executive committee will take a comprehensive look at the operational structure and the most appropriate path forward. The longstanding MTC staff will continue to execute against the organization’s strategic plan, supporting its two major divisions: MDTech, which serves the advanced technology community, and Maryland Life Sciences, serving the biotechnology and life sciences community.

“Tami has been instrumental in implementing the strategic vision of the Maryland Tech Council, which now represents more than 450 members since its creation from the merger of the region’s two largest technology and life science industry associations in early 2017. Under Tami’s leadership, we were able to accomplish several critical objectives, including unification of community constituents, heightened industry and regional visibility, and acceleration of our government relations agenda. The MTC Board of Directors supports Tami’s decision to return to practicing law.
