WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Engineering News-Record awarded The Weitz Company with a best project award in its Southeast region for the construction of the Fourth District Court of Appeal in West Palm Beach, Fla.
The honor was announced on Wednesday when ENR, one of the construction industry’s top publications, released the companies selected by an industry panel of judges in each of its 18 award categories. The Fourth District Court of Appeal project won in the Government/Public Building category.
“This is a great honor, not just for The Weitz Company but also the State of Florida and every company we partnered with to build what is now an award-winning project,” said Dennis Gallagher, executive vice president and general manager of The Weitz Company.
Completed in December 2017, the new Fourth District Court of Appeal courthouse totals 43,711 square feet and features one main courtroom and 14 judicial offices. The three-story building includes a secure lobby with bullet resistant glass and a metal detector system; extensive mahogany-stained millwork; and an enclosed rooftop courtyard. There is an adjacent four-story, 334-stall parking garage with secure entry/exit for judicial staff.
The project team overcame challenges, utilized innovative construction techniques and finished the job safely – all of which were key criteria in ENR’s regional best project awards competition. ENR will recognize The Weitz Company and the other winners from the Southeast region (which covers Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee) at an awards luncheon on November 1 in Orlando, Fla.
Weitz served as the construction manager on the project. It was designed by KBJ Architects of Jacksonville, Fla.
