Health Dialog Extends Agreement with Harvard Health Publishing for Review of Its Award-Winning Shared Decision Making Library

Physicians from world’s #1 medical school to review and revise decision aids

BOSTON--()--Health Dialog, a leading provider of integrated population health management solutions for health plans, risk-bearing providers and self-insured employers, has extended its 2014 agreement with Harvard Health Publishing, the media and publishing division of the Harvard Medical School. Under the agreement, Harvard Medical School physicians will review and revise Health Dialog’s award-winning shared decision making (SDM) library for clinical accuracy, reflecting Health Dialog’s commitment to shared decision making programs that meet the highest quality standards.

Health Dialog’s library of 35 decision aids—one of the most comprehensive in the world—provides evidence-based, unbiased information on treatment options and condition management to support more informed dialog between individuals and their physicians. SDM is a collaborative process between physicians and patients that may rely on the use of decision aids, which offer evidence-based information about treatment choices to help patients understand their options, consider their personal values and preferences, and prepare them to talk with their provider to make a more informed health choice.

“Harvard Health Publishing is committed to bringing people around the world the most current health information that is authoritative, trustworthy and accessible, drawing on the expertise of the more than 11,000 faculty physicians at Harvard Medical School,” said Dr. Howard LeWine, chief medical editor, Harvard Health Publishing.

Health Dialog’s shared decision making programs have collectively earned the company more than 100 industry awards for content, ease-of-use and design. Nearly two decades of data show patients who use decision aids often choose less invasive care, achieve better health outcomes, reduce healthcare costs and are happier with both their care and their provider.

“We’re pleased to be continuing our work with such a wonderful team of dedicated medical experts,” said Peter Goldbach, M.D., chief medical officer, Health Dialog. “Their review helps ensure that our decision aids continue to reflect the rigor of some of the best minds in medicine. We welcome Harvard Medical School’s scrutiny as it upholds our commitment to producing the highest quality decision aids so that patients can make better, more informed health choices that work for them.”
