Pavia Systems Announces Partnership with Virginia Department of Transportation and Virginia Asphalt Association

VDOT and VAA collaborate to utilize HeadLight inspection and verification technology to streamline state and contractor information sharing workflow

SEATTLE--()--Pavia Systems, the leading real-time inspection and verification technology firm focused exclusively on infrastructure construction, announced today it has entered into a partnership with the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) and the Virginia Asphalt Association (VAA). VDOT and VAA member companies will use HeadLight to facilitate a collaboration of the state project inspection program and the asphalt contractor quality control program, with the shared goal of applying innovation to improve sharing of information and communication between the DOT and contractors.

Pavia Systems’ HeadLight provides industry-leading photo-driven inspection and verification technology. It helps teams succeed by transforming their pen and paper processes into a real-time inspection and verification program that greatly improves communications and data sharing among teams. By collecting high-quality data first and then using it to populate required forms rather than the other way around, organizations significantly increase the usability of that data for consumption by the many audiences that need it, reducing project liability and overrun risks.

“We are fortunate to be working at a time when innovations like HeadLight offer a replacement to field notebooks and other inefficient paper-based processes. HeadLight makes it much easier to not only archive important construction quality information, but also compile and analyze data that can contribute to improved processes in the future,” said Kevin K. McGhee, P.E., Associate Director - Pavements, Virginia Transportation Research Council – VDOT Research Division.

Inspection and field project delivery staff from both VDOT and contractor members of VAA will adopt HeadLight to better manage material quality control allowing VDOT to easily review data collected by contractors for the delivery, lay-down, and compaction of asphalt pavement materials across the state.

“The investment in an innovation like HeadLight in collaboration with VDOT will help reinforce our members’ commitment to quality and how we can streamline communication and collaboration between contractors and VDOT. This initiative will ensure the public gets the best quality possible out of the roads they use every day,” said Trenton Clark, Executive Vice President of the Virginia Asphalt Association.

The technology is expected to enhance the monitoring of pavement quality during construction and will be used for reporting, acceptance, and payments. Researchers will work with both VDOT and VAA to explore long-term and wide-spread benefits using this innovation.

“Pavia Systems is proud to partner with forward-thinking leaders like VDOT and VAA,” said Si Katara, President and Co-Founder of Pavia Systems. “This unique and proactive collaboration through the use of HeadLight shows their commitment to efficient project delivery and improved collaboration between the DOT and Contractors. This will ultimately provide more value to the traveling public in Virginia and is a perfect example of why we created HeadLight.”

Pavia Systems collaborated with industry experts to develop the HeadLight inspection and verification technology as a tool for transportation construction teams to increase productivity and prevent losses. The product addresses real-time data capture and communication challenges critical to the success of infrastructure projects. By increasing collaboration with the contractor and maintaining an open dialog with stakeholders from day one, HeadLight helps to minimize risks and save taxpayer dollars.
