Chicago’s Broadway Break Thru to Host Performing Arts Symposium For 75 Students and Award $250,000 in College Scholarships

CHICAGO--()--For the first time ever, twenty-three of the country’s top performing arts schools will come together in Chicago for Broadway Break Thru’sCollege Break Thru” (CBT) summer symposium. Scheduled for Monday, June 25th thru Friday, June 29th at the University Center Chicago (525 S State Street), students will have the opportunity to receive more than $250,000 in college scholarships.

Broadway Break Thru (BBT) provides nationwide opportunities to young, aspiring artists through performing arts summer camps, pre-college programs, after school programs and weekend workshops. Founded by David Petro, a Disney, Nickelodeon and Broadway Casting Director and former Broadway performer, BBT students are given the chance to meet and learn from university faculty members as well as entertainment industry professionals.

College Break Thru is the newest program from the BBT brand. The 5-day intensives are designed for incoming high school freshmen to seniors, who have a strong interest in musical theatre, dance, voice and acting. By accepting only seventy-five of the nation’s elite high school performing artists, CBT can provide unprecedented access to the world’s top colleges and instructors, high caliber classes and exclusive auditions.

“This program gives students an extra college advantage,” explains Petro. “There isn't any program that allows talented students to pre-audition and get feedback from the decision makers who will be in their real college auditions.”

Petro recently connected with Melody Herzfeld, the drama teacher from Stoneman Douglas high School who saved sixty-five of her drama students by barricading them into a closet. Now that some are leading the Never Again movement, they have not been back to school since February and are failing classes. In honor of their leadership and courage, BBT has created the Melody Herzfeld Scholarship for CBT which offers five Stoneman Douglas students round trip airfare, full boarding/meal plan, and admission to the 2018 summer program (worth $2500). Donations to contribute to the fund to support additional students are being accepted here: http://bit.ly/leadersintheater.

The cost for CBT 2018 is $2195 with limited space available. Students can apply online at www.broadwaybreakthru.com. CBT 2019 is scheduled for June 24 -28, 2019 in Chicago. Pre-registration will be held for a limited time beginning June 25, 2018, with a $400 discount off the regular price.
