NEW YORK--()--Michael Toner has rejoined Business Wire in the role of vice president, digital strategy, with responsibility for leading the company’s marketing initiatives across the full spectrum of online and traditional platforms.

In his newly created position, Toner will leverage the web, e-mail, and social media channels to assure that the activities of Business Wire’s sales and marketing teams are closely integrated. A core focus is lead generation, targeting key audiences with personalized messaging to create awareness of Business Wire’s products and services.

Additionally, Toner is responsible for Business Wire’s traditional marketing efforts, including new product launches, sponsorship opportunities, content creation, branding, and its international web sites.

Toner began his Business Wire career in 2006, specializing in search engine optimization and social media engagement. He left the company to join the digital marketing team at Computer Science Corporation. Toner subsequently joined Navy Federal Credit Union, where he oversaw several award-winning social media marketing programs. In 2015, Toner was part of a Navy Federal Credit Union team that was awarded the ICMI Global Award for Best Social Media Customer Care program.

When presented with the chance to develop Business Wire’s digital strategy department, Toner enthusiastically accepted the opportunity to rejoin the company.

“We are seeing the emergence of the next generation of news technology,” said Toner. “Business Wire will continue leading the industry by providing its members with the tools and technology they need to create and publish their stories while targeting their audiences when and where they need to reach them. Our ability to connect organizations and audiences is what will guide Business Wire as we embark on this journey.”

Toner, who reports to chief operating officer, Richard DeLeo, is based in Washington, D.C.

“Michael has experienced Business Wire from all sides of the table,” said DeLeo. “He was a very successful member of our sales team during his first tour with Business Wire and then went on to become a valued client in the marketplace. These years of experience coupled with his digital marketing expertise set him up for success in his new role.”
