BELLEVUE, Wash.--()--Symetra Financial Corporation today announced the appointment of Jacqueline M. Veneziani as senior vice president, general counsel and secretary, effective April 1. Veneziani succeeds David Goldstein, who is retiring after more than six years as general counsel. She will report to Margaret Meister, president and chief executive officer of Symetra Financial Corporation, and will oversee the company’s Law and Compliance departments.

Veneziani joined Symetra in 1998 as lawyer in its legal department. She is currently senior vice president, deputy general counsel and assistant secretary of Symetra Life Insurance Company and its affiliates, responsible for providing counsel for Symetra’s corporate governance and Retirement Division legal issues. Prior to Symetra Financial Corporation’s acquisition by Sumitomo Life, she supported the organization’s public company corporate governance and reporting obligations.

“Jacquie has built an outstanding track record of success at Symetra over the past 20 years. She is a strong leader, known for her proactive and collaborative approach,” said Meister. “With her broad experience and deep knowledge of the company, Jacquie will continue to be a valuable contributor as we pursue Symetra’s growth strategies.”

Veneziani earned bachelor’s degrees in economics and international studies from the University of Washington. She received her law degree with honors from the University of Washington, where she also served as articles editor for the Washington Law Review. Prior to joining Symetra, she began her legal career as an associate with a Seattle law firm.

Goldstein came to Symetra from the law firm of Sutherland, Asbill & Brennan. He oversaw the expansion of Symetra’s Law and Compliance teams, adding new talent to support the company’s key growth areas. He played a key role in product development, regulatory affairs and enhancing corporate governance. He was also heavily involved in Symetra’s acquisition by Sumitomo Life.

Meister added, “I would like to thank David for his leadership of Symetra’s exceptional legal organization. He has been a leading force behind Symetra’s major corporate initiatives, including the acquisition by Sumitomo Life. We wish him the best in his retirement.”
