Liberty Mutual Insurance Selected as One of the 2017 Best Workplaces for Diversity by Great Place to Work and Fortune

BOSTON--()--Liberty Mutual Insurance is proud to announce that it ranks #80 on the 2017 100 Best Workplaces for Diversity list published today by Great Place to Work and Fortune magazine.

The ranking considered more than 440,000 employee surveys from organizations in a wide range of industries across the U.S. Great Place to Work, a research and consulting firm, evaluated more than 50 elements of team members’ experience on the job. These included professional development, behaviors linked to innovation, leadership confidence and consistent treatment among employees of different backgrounds. The ranking also accounted for the share of women, people of color, Baby Boomers and LGBT individuals in the workplace.

“We are grateful to receive this recognition from Fortune and Great Place to Work for the work we have done to broaden the definition of diversity to include all of our employees’ multiple dimensions,” said Liberty Mutual Executive Vice President for Talent & Enterprise Services Melanie Foley. “Our senior leadership understands and supports an important tenet of Diversity and Inclusion: that the power of our collective differences and similarities sparks innovation and globally-competitive ideas. I personally want to thank all of our employees – and our diversity and inclusion team and their key partners, especially – for making Liberty an inclusive employer who welcomes and embraces all of the differences and similarities between people and groups.”

Liberty Mutual Chief Diversity Officer Dawn Frazier-Bohnert said: “We are honored and humbly accept this recognition as an indication that we have put the right foundational pieces in place for further growth on our diversity and inclusion journey. With this foundation in place, we are using the momentum we have created to move from awareness to action by encouraging all employees to apply a D&I Lens to everything they do for their colleagues, our customers and community.”

Among Liberty’s recent D&I milestones are the recent signing by Liberty Mutual’s CEO David H. Long of:

  • the CEO Action for Diversity & Inclusion™ whereby the company joined the more than 175 other companies across the country who have committed to advancing diverse and inclusive workplaces; and
  • the statement of Support for the Guard and Reserve on behalf of Liberty Mutual to demonstrate our support for the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve’s (ESGR) mission to promote a culture in which employers encourage and value the employment and military service of members of the U.S. National Guard and Reserve

Liberty Mutual’s Diversity and Inclusion framework has five focus areas including Talent (attraction, advancement and retention), Development (building D&I capability), Workplace Environment, Customer and Community, and at the framework’s core is Communications (D&I messaging and language). All parts of this model have to be working together for diversity and inclusion efforts to succeed.
