Overlake Named Among Top 5% of Hospitals in the Nation for Joint Replacement and Treatment of Stroke in 2018 by Healthgrades

BELLEVUE, Wash.--()--Overlake Medical Center announced today it is the only hospital in Washington to be named among the Top 5% in the Nation for Joint Replacement and for Treatment of Stroke in 2018 by Healthgrades. Overlake is also the only hospital in Washington to achieve Excellence Awards and recognition among the Top 10% in the nation in Neurosciences, Pulmonary Care, Stroke Care, Bariatric and Joint Replacement. In fact, Overlake is Washington’s only hospital to achieve the Bariatric Excellence Award from Healthgrades for 2018.

Every year, Healthgrades evaluates hospital performance at nearly 4,500 hospitals nationwide for 34 of the most common inpatient procedures and conditions. It is the leading online resource helping consumers make informed decisions to find the right doctor and the right hospital for the right care.

“We’re very proud to receive such distinction in all of these specialties,” said Overlake Chief Medical Officer David Knoepfler. “It is reflective of our multiple, ongoing strategic initiatives around providing an excellent patient experience while delivering the highest quality and safest care. The best news is what it means for patients who want and deserve impartial data upon which to base their health care decisions.”

Healthgrades’ 2018 Report to the Nation demonstrates how clinical performance continues to differ dramatically between hospitals regionally and nationally. The variation in care has a significant impact on health outcomes. “Consumers value information about hospital quality and use it to evaluate their choices for care,” said Brad Bowman, Chief Medical Officer, Healthgrades. “Hospitals that have achieved a specialty excellence distinction from Healthgrades prove a commitment to high-quality of patient care.”

Additionally, Overlake achieved Five-Star distinction in the following cohorts:

- Total Hip Replacement for 7 Years in a Row (2012-2018)

- Total Knee Replacement for 3 Years in a Row (2016-2018)

- Treatment of Pneumonia for 2 Years in a Row (2017-2018)

- Treatment of Stroke for 3 Years in a Row (2016-2018)

- Treatment of Gastrointestinal Bleed for 4 Years in a Row (2015-2018)

- Peripheral Vascular Bypass in 2018

The clinical outcomes methodology used by Healthgrades compares actual versus predicted performance for specific patient outcomes in nearly 4,500 short-term acute care hospitals in the country. Approximately 45 million Medicare inpatient records were evaluated.
