Voya Financial Chairman, CEO Rodney O. Martin Honored with Spirit of Life® Award by City of Hope’s National Life Insurance Council

City of Hope awarded Martin in New York at the council’s inaugural Spirit of Life Gala

DUARTE, Calif.--()--City of Hope’s National Life Insurance Council (NLIC) honored Rodney O. Martin, Jr., chairman and chief executive officer of Voya Financial, at its inaugural Spirit of Life® Gala in September. The group raised $775,600, which will support cancer research and treatment efforts at City of Hope, the world-renowned medical, scientific research and treatment center.

The Spirit of Life Award, City of Hope’s highest honor, was presented to Martin at a gala dinner in New York on September 15. Each year, the award recognizes individuals whose work has fundamentally impacted his or her service industries.

Martin, a veteran of the retirement, insurance and financial services industries with more than 40 years of high-profile experience, has been instrumental to the NLIC’s success. The event was host to more than 350 leaders and guests. Martin’s focus was not just to raise funds, but to build and sustain a national effort in the insurance community for many more years to come.

“It is an honor to be the recipient of The Spirit of Life Award – and a privilege to salute the life-changing impact of City of Hope, as they work to heal the body, the mind and the soul of their patients and loved ones,” said Martin. “Amidst the storm of a battle against cancer and disease, City of Hope serves as a lighthouse. As so perfectly reflected in its name, it offers hope – and it does so when hope is desperately needed.”

“Rod’s involvement, along with the support of other national life insurance leaders, is vital to City of Hope’s scientific breakthroughs, innovative research and compassionate patient care,” said Steven T. Rosen, M.D., provost and chief scientific officer at City of Hope.
