AIM Specialty Health® names Chief Medical Officer

Industry veteran Dr. Robert Mandel brings deep health plan and provider leadership experience to AIM

CHICAGO--()--AIM Specialty Health (AIM)a national leader in specialty benefits management, has named Robert Mandel, MD, MBA as chief medical officer. Mandel will help define and deliver strategies for health plans, providers, patients and employers working to improve the quality and value of healthcare.

Dr. Mandel brings extensive senior leadership experience in health systems, health plans, and innovative health service companies to his role as chief medical officer for AIM. As part of the executive team, he will drive the clinical integrity of AIM solutions, lead the team of medical directors, and collaborate with clients on how to achieve better health outcomes while controlling costs.

Most recently, Mandel served as president of Activate Healthcare, where he was responsible for opening new markets across the eastern United States, including sales, marketing, business development and operations. Prior to that, he served as president and CEO at Health Dialog, the wholly owned subsidiary of Rite Aid providing care management, health care analytics, decision support, and health coaching.

He has longtime experience with Blue Cross Blue Shield companies, serving as senior vice president of Health Care Services for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Tennessee where he was accountable for all the medical spend for the Commercial and Established Market Business Unit. Dr. Mandel also spent more than nine years with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts where he held a number of VP roles, including health care services, e-health, provider enrollment and services, health care services administration and medical information, and was the senior medical director of provider partnerships.

Earlier in his career in Harrisburg, Penn., Dr. Mandel was a member of the initial leadership team of Health Central, a start-up, provider-sponsored HMO, and worked for Pinnacle Health System. He also is a practicing ophthalmologist who continues to see patients.

Dr. Mandel is a cum laude graduate of Princeton University and earned his medical degree from The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He also earned an MBA degree from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American College of Physician Executives, and the Massachusetts Medical Society.
