MALVERN, Ark.--()--Join Southern Bancorp and the Federal Home Loan Bank of Dallas (FHLB Dallas) as they celebrate the grand opening of Hughes Animal Hospital. Earlier this year, the veterinary practice received a $20,000 Economic Development Program Plus (EDPPlus) grant from the banks to help with new equipment. A practicing veterinarian since 1989, Dr. Richard Hughes opened his facility in 2017 with the help of a loan from Southern Bancorp that was funded by an Economic Development Program (EDP) advance from FHLB Dallas. The grant was awarded to Dr. Hughes in conjunction with the loan.

The public and media are invited to join local leadership, Dr. Hughes and representatives of Southern Bancorp and FHLB Dallas for the special ribbon-cutting ceremony and tour at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 28 in Malvern, Arkansas.

In 2017, FHLB Dallas has made $750,000 in EDPPlus grants available through its member institutions, which are awarded in conjunction with EDP advances. EDPPlus grants are available on a first-come, first-served basis to promote and enhance small business development and job creation. For more information, go to fhlb.com/edp.
