SMK Electronics to Unveil Advanced Force-Sensitive Set-Top Box Remote Controls at IBC 2017

Utilizing Quantum Tunneling Composites Technology, New SMK Remote Controls Offers Touch-Sensitive, Force-Sensitive User Interface

AMSTERDAM--()--SMK Electronics (Europe) Ltd., a division of SMK Corporation (Japan) announced today that, through its expanding collaboration with Peratech Holdco Ltd., it will unveil a new touch-sensitive remote control solution at IBC 2017 (Amsterdam RAI Exhibition Center, September 14th – 18th, booth #5.B64).

SMK’s new set-top remote controls utilize Peratech’s award-winning QTC® technology to provide an enhanced home user experience. Remote buttons and directional pads require only a touch to send commands–without the humidity limitations and accidental input errors common to capacitive controls. Integrating QTC, SMK’s advanced remotes are both touch- and force-sensitive: with a light press to fast forward at 2x speed, a medium press to fast forward at 4x, and a hard press to toggle the next chapter or episode. Designed to be used with either bare or gloved hands, SMK’s touch-sensitive remotes are also highly energy-efficient–enabling a battery life up to 500% longer than capacitive touch remotes.

“In our efforts to provide the subscriber with the most enjoyable, powerful entertainment experience possible, we are constantly researching new interface technologies for integration into our advanced set-top remote controls,” said Patrick Delanoeije, Vice President, SMK Electronics (Europe) Ltd. “Utilizing QTC technology, our new remote control solutions are both touch- and force-sensitive—opening up a variety of advanced interface options. We are pleased to be reviewing this exciting new solution with our EU customers over the coming months.”
