Appfire Announces Two Factor Authentication for Atlassian’s Bitbucket Server

BOSTON--()--ATLASSIAN SUMMIT 2017 —Wittified (an Appfire company) announced today at Atlassian Summit 2017 that it has launched new software, which introduces Two Factor Authentication (2FA) to Atlassian’s Bitbucket Server. 2FA is a security technique aimed at introducing a second level of authentication to an account when you log-in. In addition to the first factor “Something I know” (e.g., my username / password), 2FA requires a second factor “Something I have”. Something that only that user has in their physical position and is available at that moment to validate as a second factor.

Regardless of the size of your company, or what industry you are in, passwords alone no longer provide adequate security," said Daniel Wester, Chief Product Officer, Wittified. “The inability to verify your user's identity will eventually result in data loss, fraud, or malicious attacks against your application or service.”

There’s a good chance you are already using 2FA. Companies such as Apple, Google, Facebook, LinkedIn, and many others already have 2FA capability within their applications.

A humble password is not a security strategy," said Betsy Walker, VP of Business Systems, Appfire. “While it’s true that no system is 100% secure, understanding the threats you face will help you improve your security”.

According to Verizon’s 2017 Data Breach Investigations Report, 81% of hacking-related breaches leveraged stolen and/or weak passwords - and 51% involved the injection of malware or malicious changes to source code.

With 2FA for Bitbucket, administrators can now add a second level of authentication when users interact with one or more Git repositories from within Bitbucket or external client applications such as Atlassian’s SourceTree, developer IDEs, and the command-line. Administrators can define custom include or exclude access rules, and change all text displayed to their end-users as they interact with 2FA for standardization or localization.

Conforming to the latest industry standards, Wittified’s 2FA for Bitbucket works with free authenticator apps provided by Google, Twillio, Microsoft, and with many others. Available on Atlassian’s Marketplace, 2FA for Bitbucket can be configured and deployed in minutes. For more on Wittified’s 2FA for Bitbucket, please visit the Atlassian Marketplace.
