WILMINGTON, Del.--()--CSC, a world leader in business, legal, tax, and digital brand services, today unveiled “The Delaware Root,” a 22-foot-tall, three-leg sculpture designed by artist Steve Tobin. The sculpture will be placed at the center of CSC’s new global headquarters campus, rooting the company firmly in Delaware, where it has prospered for more than a century.

As part of a global rebrand and with the recent opening of its new headquarters, CSC leadership seized an opportunity to reflect on the company’s core values and sought a way to visually represent CSC’s century of growth and prosperity while recognizing seminal events in the company’s history. The Delaware Root has three legs that recognize the three families—Ward, Marvel, and Butler—who built CSC into the company it is today. In addition, the sculpture will pay tribute to CSC employees who demonstrated heroism on September 11, 2001.

On September 11th, CSC had offices on the 87th floor of the South Tower of the World Trade Center. CSC employees demonstrated what CSC CEO Rod Ward calls the “extraordinary courage of ordinary people,” as all employees at work that morning were able to escape the World Trade Center unharmed after the tower was struck. The Delaware Root casts a peace sign in its shadow, in remembrance of September 11th, representing gratitude for quick thinking, good fortune, and prayers for the many who lost their lives that day.

“Like so many around the world, CSC felt the impact of the attack on the World Trade Center in a way that is difficult to put in to words,” says Rod Ward. “The Delaware Root is a way to honor the bravery of our employees that day and ensure that the values that led them to safety—leadership, courage, teamwork—are passed on to CSC employees for years to come.”

The artist, Steve Tobin, is a world-renowned sculptor working in monumental glass, bronze, steel, and clay. His art has appeared in major museums and collections around the world.
