IAM Union Members Help St. Paul Children and Families Struggling with Poverty, Domestic Violence

SAINT PAUL, Minn.--()--On September 16, 2017, members of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) District Lodge 77 will be helping to restore a St. Paul facility dedicated to helping children and families struggling with poverty, substance abuse, mental health, homelessness and domestic violence.

FamilyWise has been keeping children safe and helping families lead stable, healthy and productive lives since 1976. Programs and services include early childhood education, parenting skills, and helping to provide a safe, secure location for families faced with at-risk youth, teenage pregnancy, domestic violence, or divorce.

On September 16, 2017, IAM volunteers will meet at the FamilyWise building located at 281 Maria Avenue, St. Paul, MN 55106, to help with a number of projects including cleaning up the building’s exterior, removing old carpeting, breaking down old office furniture, and organizing old financial records.

The effort is a part of IAM District 77’s continued dedication to helping in the community in which we live and work. IAM District 77 represents more than 3,700 hard working families across the state of Minnesota.

Partnering with FamilyWise as part of IAM District 77’s ongoing community service efforts was a perfect fit,” said IAM District 77 Directing Business Representative John Steigauf. “The FamilyWise value statement encompasses the very same values IAM members fight for on a daily basis: safety and well-being, the ability to change and succeed, accountability, integrity, partnering, and honoring diversity. Like us, the organization promotes social change by strengthening families and communities. We’re honored to help FamilyWise families in any way we can.”
