Medica Announces Its Intent to Acquire MMSI

Move Brings Benefits for Both Organizations

MINNETONKA, Minn.--()--Mayo Clinic and Medica today announced that Medica is acquiring Mayo Clinic Health Solutions (MMSI), a division of Mayo Clinic. The move represents a new business arrangement for the two organizations. The change will be effective by the end of 2017; financial details are not being announced.

MMSI, based in Rochester, Minn., and doing business as Mayo Clinic Health Solutions, is a health benefits management company and licensed third party administrator that provides plan administration services and health care products to 260,000 members through 28 customers.

The arrangement may also offer opportunities to help improve access for patients with serious and complex medical conditions.

For many years, Mayo Clinic and Medica have each worked to advance health care, improve the consumer experience and drive innovation in health care delivery, technologies and tools,” said John Naylor, Medica president and chief executive officer. “Today, with Medica’s acquisition of MMSI, we can bring greater capabilities and flexibility through new technologies for customers.”

Complementing each organization’s strengths is important in this decision,” said Kedrick Adkins, chief financial officer, Mayo Clinic. “This new arrangement offers technologies and opportunities to explore that can benefit patients and clients.”
