Michigan Health Market Review 2017 - Research and Markets

DUBLIN--()--The "Michigan Health Market Review 2017: Part One" report has been added to Research and Markets' offering.

Implementation of the Affordable Care Act has been a smashing success in Michigan. More than half a million Michigan residents gained health coverage by enrolling in the Healthy Michigan Medicaid expansion or buying individual coverage, often subsidized. The market for individual insurance has been among the most stable in the country, with a good number of competitors and relatively moderate, until now, annual premium increases. Fifteen Michigan provider organizations have formed Medicare Accountable Care Organizations, seeking to improve quality and reduce costs, and some have realized significant shared savings. Much of what has been achieved could be undone if Congress agrees on a bill replacing the Affordable Care Act.

Health care organizations are facing significant uncertainty, trying to understand the challenges and opportunities that they face going forward. Our state health market reports are a resource for them, providing comprehensive data and objective analysis on the finances and strategies of health plans and provider systems. Michigan Health Market Review was first published in 1997, and this is the 21st edition. Michigan was the third state for the analysis of local health care payer and provider market, based on the template we developed in Minnesota.

The Michigan and Minnesota reports are published in two parts, with the first part focusing on the analysis of health plans and the second part examining the provider systems. Part One begins with an overview of health insurance and the health plan organizations in the state, followed by our analysis of their enrollment and market share trends and financial performance. Links in the report take the reader to sites to view or download information about the health plans and other organizations, as well as sources of data and other analysis.

A draft of the exhibits is provided in this report to Michigan health plans and others to review and to correct any errors. Their comments and corrections have been incoporated into this final edition, but the researcher is remain solely responsible for the content of this report and the views expressed within it. Arlene West prepared the interactive PDF documents.
