NTE Energy Secures Army Corps Wetlands Permit for its Reidsville Energy Center

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla.--()--NTE Carolinas II, LLC (“NTE”), an affiliate of NTE Energy, was granted its Nationwide Wetlands Permit from the US Army Corps of Engineers on July 27, 2017 for its Reidsville Energy Center. The receipt of this permit, together with the Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity from the North Carolina Utilities Commission received in January, and the receipt of the Air Permit earlier this month, completes all the major permits needed by NTE to construct the Reidsville Energy Center. The Reidsville Energy Center is a 500 MW natural gas-fired electric generating facility, located in Rockingham County, N.C. The facility will be a source of clean and efficient electric capacity and energy for many communities and utilities in North and South Carolina.

“The issuance of this Army Corps permit is the final permit the company needs for the Reidsville project,” said Mike Green, SVP of NTE Energy. “NTE is pleased to be an economic and reliable resource to our customers in North and South Carolina, especially in light of recent uncertainty in the region regarding alternative power generation projects.”

The Reidsville Energy Center is expected to begin initial construction activities in the fourth quarter of 2017, and reach commercial operation in 2021.

The Rockingham County facility is similar in size and design to NTE’s Kings Mountain Energy Center, located in Kings Mountain (Cleveland County), N.C., which is currently under construction and will soon begin start-up activities. The Kings Mountain facility will be operational in the summer of 2018.
