Topic computing introduces a unique, pragmatic approach to artificial intelligence (AI). Unlike traditional AI, which tries to find patterns in big data and ‘make sense’ of them, topic computing observes the worker’s current focus, such as viewing an email message or editing a document, to establish a context for what is important. Topic computing first employs natural language processing (NLP) to extract interesting topics from an email message or document and then matches those topics across notifications from all the worker’s other enterprise applications. Using machine learning, it is then able to surface the most important notifications from any application, so workers can focus on what is important right now and take immediate action. Enterprise applications include email, Office 365, SharePoint, Zendesk, Yammer, IBM Connections, and now Dynamics 365.
