Russell Investments Canada Names Andrew Kitchen MD, Institutional

  • Senior industry leader joins the global asset manager’s Canadian Institutional team
  • Kitchen to lead delivery of investment outsourcing solutions to Canadian institutional investors

TORONTO--()--Russell Investments Canada Limited (“Russell Investments Canada”) has heightened the focus on its institutional business with the appointment of Andrew Kitchen as Managing Director, Institutional Canada. Kitchen will lead efforts to bring the firm’s multi-asset investment outsourcing solutions, implementation services and strategic advice to the Canadian institutional marketplace. Kitchen, who has 25 years of professional experience, including his most recent role as SEI Investments’ Managing Director for Institutional Investment, Canada, will be based in the firm’s Toronto office.

In addition to driving awareness and consideration of investment outsourcing solutions for institutional investors, Kitchen will provide strategic direction on best practices in governance, implementation and investment options to Russell Investments Canada’s clients.

“Andrew brings in-depth, client-focused experience to this key position, as the global trend toward investment outsourcing takes hold in Canada,” said David Steele, president and CEO, Russell Investments Canada. “Andrew has worked extensively with organizations to address complex issues, particularly in the areas of investment risk management, de-risking and liability-driven investment, and we are excited to have him lead the way in bringing high quality solutions to the Canadian institutional marketplace.”

According to Steele, few organizations have the time, resources and governance structure required for daily portfolio oversight at the investment portfolio level to help improve risk-return trade-offs and execution of real-time risk management and opportunistic portfolio allocations. For many plans, strategic advice and manager selection are not enough anymore to achieve their objectives, given the challenges presented by market volatility and the low interest rate environment. That’s where a true fiduciary solutions provider can add value in helping them reach their desired outcomes.

Commenting on his new role, Kitchen said, “I am excited to join Russell Investments Canada at this time in its history and to have the opportunity to lead the delivery of institutional solutions for Canadian clients who are seeking to meet a variety of outcomes. Many institutional investors are increasingly facing higher pressures and demands, both internally and in the broader investing landscape, and we can help them navigate those complexities.”

Kitchen is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries (FIA), a Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries (FCIA) and a CFA Charterholder.

Russell Investments Canada has worked with pension plans, endowments and foundations as an investment outsourcing solutions provider for more than 30 years.
