Prego Celebrates the Family Meal

America’s Iconic Pasta Sauce Brand Brings Together First-Generation College Students

CAMDEN, N.J.--()--Today, Prego introduced "Welcome to the Family," a heartfelt demonstration of the powerful benefits of a family meal. For more than thirty years, Prego has been bringing all kinds of families together around the dinner table - from traditional to non-traditional, old friends to newfound - to share delicious tasting food, and in the process, breaking down social and economic barriers and forging new bonds.

Inspired by the modern definition of family as a group connected by common interest, experience or life-defining moment, Prego brought together a group of sixteen first-generation college-bound students from San Diego for a family dinner where they could share their stories, struggles, successes and dreams. What unfolded at the dinner table was the realization that together, their future will be that much brighter.

"When the conversation at the table is meaningful, you're not as focused on the little things, like spilling crumbs or a little pasta-sauce splatter. Bringing people together more often to share a family meal is at the heart of Prego’s purpose."

College freshman are beginning one of the most formidable chapters of their lives. For the thirty percent who are first-generation college students, the transition is often even more intimidating.

In partnership with Reality Changers - an organization based in San Diego with the mission to provide youth with academic support, financial assistance and leadership training to become college graduates - Prego helped these students discover a new family that can provide support, alleviate anxiety of the unknown college experience, and share in the excitement around their upcoming freshman year:

"A lot of first generation college students get this idea that they are alone. The truth is, there are a lot of other students going through the same thing. Family is everywhere. Anyone can become a family," said Andrea B. who will be attending San Diego State University this fall.
