BGE Thanks Customers for Successful Energy Savings Day

Customers earned $4.6 million during first event of the summer

BALTIMORE--()--Baltimore Gas and Electric Company’s (BGE) customers earned $4.6 million by reducing energy usage between the hours of 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. yesterday, the first Energy Savings Day of the summer season. Since Energy Savings Days began in 2013, BGE customers have earned nearly $40 million through 2016 by reducing energy usage during periods of peak demand on hot summer days.

Typically, at least 70 percent of eligible customers participate by using less energy during Energy Savings Days. There are two ways to save on energy usage and earn bill credits. All customers with smart meters are eligible to participate in Energy Savings Days with no enrollment required. Simply use less electricity (by reducing air conditioning use if health permits, delaying using large appliance, and turning off lights) between 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. on an Energy Savings Day and earn $1.25 for every kilowatt-hour saved compared to typical usage. Or, customers who voluntarily enroll in PeakRewardsSM can receive bill credits when their air conditioning is automatically cycled up to 50 percent between 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Energy Savings Days.

Customers who have opted to receive bill credit alerts via emails or text messages should receive those notifications today. Customers can also check bill credits by logging onto their accounts at www.bge.com.
