NEW YORK--()--Suffolk, one of the most innovative builders in the country with an expanding presence in New York City, has been selected as the construction manager for a new retail, commercial and residential development at 532 Neptune Avenue in Brooklyn, NY. The building is part of Neptune/Sixth, a new mixed-use neighborhood destination set in the heart of Coney Island being developed by New York-based real estate investment company, Cammeby’s.

In its role as construction manager, Suffolk will oversee construction of a mixed-use building featuring a 42-story residential tower, parking, 50,000 square feet of community facility and over 100,000 square feet of retail space. Neptune/Sixth also encompasses an under-construction commercial and retail building at 626 Sheepshead Bay Road that is adjacent to the planned residential tower and is expected to be completed by the end of 2017. Outdoor landscaping and seating areas create connectivity between the project’s buildings and contribute to the pedestrian experience offered by this new neighborhood destination, designed by New York City-based S9 Architecture.

Known for offering entertainment for New York visitors, Coney Island has been making strong efforts to bring more retail, amenities and services for residents.

“We are thrilled to be named construction manager for 532 Neptune Avenue, which will help define the future of Coney Island,” said Charles Avolio, President and General Manager of Suffolk’s New York region. “Our innovative processes and build smart approach will enable us to deliver a more predictable and efficient project with the highest levels of quality and safety.”

“We’re pleased to partner with Suffolk, and look forward to delivering a high-quality development that will positively contribute to the neighborhood’s vitality through an infusion of new residential, retail and commercial options,” stated Jacob Cohen, executive vice president of development for Cammeby’s.

Suffolk will utilize “build smart” tools such as virtual reality, Lean Construction, Virtual Design and Construction, and Target Value Design throughout the duration of the project.

Construction on the mixed-use building on Neptune Avenue is currently underway with retail occupancy expected to begin in the second half of 2018.

Over the past several months, Cammeby’s has announced several lease agreements with retailers to locate within the overall Neptune/Sixth development, including regional boutique supermarket NetCost, Capital One, CVS Pharmacy, DII Stores, and Apple Bank.
