34 Top Nonprofits Recognized for Their Bold Solutions by Charity Navigator

CHICAGO--()--Thirty-four of America's most highly rated charities were recognized today by Charity Navigator for their bold solutions to critical social problems.

The honorees are organizations earning the highest overall ratings from Charity Navigator (3 and 4 stars) and whose 100&Change proposals are among the top 25 percent of submissions that were evaluated by the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation’s panel of judges.

100&Change is a global competition for a $100 million grant by MacArthur to fund a single proposal that promises real and measurable progress in solving a critical problem of our time.

“We created the 100&Change competition to inspire organizations to be bold and think big,” said Cecilia Conrad, MacArthur’s Managing Director, Fellows, Awards, and Exploratory Philanthropy. “We are delighted to work with Charity Navigator to shed light on some of the finest organizations that aspire to have meaningful impact solving the world’s biggest challenges.”

Each organization is evaluated by Charity Navigator on their financial efficiency and capacity, as well as their accountability and transparency to the general public. Their 100&Change submissions have been judged by MacArthur Foundation for their meaningfulness, verifiability, durability, and feasibility.

“The MacArthur Foundation’s leadership in independent philanthropy is enabling the very best organizations to achieve bold and impactful solutions,” said Michael Thatcher, CEO of Charity Navigator. “Charity Navigator is grateful to work with MacArthur in ways that encourage and support organizations to be more inclusive and trusted.”

MacArthur’s Board will select up to five 100&Change finalists in September. Finalists will present their proposals during a live event on December 11, 2017, before the Board names a single recipient to receive $100 million over up to six years.
