IRVINE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--PrescribeWellness, the cloud-based services company whose mission is to inspire collaboration for better health, today announced that Patty Kumbera has joined the company’s advisory board. Kumbera, a recognized leader in the pharmacy profession, is widely known for her expertise in Medication Therapy Management (MTM), as well as for development of policies and programs that help extend the role of the pharmacist into the realm of patient-centric clinical services and care delivery, improving health outcomes and reducing costs for all parties involved.
As part of the PrescribeWellness advisory board, Kumbera will provide strategic vision, insights and guidance that will help the firm deliver on its vision for technology solutions that enable community pharmacies to improve patient care and thrive economically by leveraging a user-friendly, business-oriented approach. Kumbera’s passion for making the interoperability of data communication throughout marketplace stakeholders a more widespread reality will guide PrescribeWellness’ efforts in developing their electronic pharmacy care plan, also known as the Pharmacist eCare Plan. With a deep understanding of the MTM marketplace, Kumbera will help drive the strategic evolution of the PrescribeWellness offering as it delivers action-oriented guidance to community pharmacists.
Kumbera was a co-founder and Chief Operating Officer of OutcomesMTM for its first 15 years. Outcomes was a market leader in the field of Medication Therapy Management Services (MTMS) and was acquired by Cardinal Healthcare in 2015. Their efforts led the implementation of services that revolutionized an industry. Kumbera and her coworkers pioneered a practical business model to expand pharmacist services and deliver compensation for successful outcomes.
Recently, through her work with the Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy (AMCP), she facilitated a pharmacy profession-wide consensus of definitions related to MTM and SNOMED CT codes used to create MTM Value Sets hosted by AMCP, PQA and PHIT Collaborative—with interoperability being the driver of forward progress in patient care. Kumbera’s knack for facilitating change and collaboration helped incite progress in MTM by urging CMS and Medicare Part D plan sponsors to regard MTM beyond its basic necessity.
“I’m proud of the evolution of MTM over the past two decades and admire the continued efforts of my colleagues across the industry in engaging pharmacists to leverage their valuable services for patients,” Kumbera said. “I’m excited to advise the PrescribeWellness leadership and share their intent to be solution-oriented, wanting to simplify with technology so pharmacists can spend more productive and effective time with patients.”
She is a graduate of the Drake University College of Pharmacy. She received the university’s Pharmacy and Health Science Alumni Achievement Award in 2009 and its inaugural APhA-APPM Distinguished Achievement Award in Pharmacy Management in 2013.
“We are absolutely thrilled to have Patty Kumbera join our advisory board,” commented Al Babbington, co-founder and CEO of PrescribeWellness. “Her expertise in planning and implementing large-scale, pharmacist-delivered programs will be invaluable as our company delivers the simple, intuitive and functional tools that community pharmacists need in order to drive patient engagement and adherence, improve business operations and, ultimately, deliver better health outcomes for the patient.”
“PrescribeWellness technology drives the Pharmacists’ Patient Care Process. We support the patient-pharmacist relationship and facilitate effective communication with the patient. The eCare Plan will allow community pharmacists to continually collaborate, document and communicate with physicians and other health care providers and solve the issue of interoperability,” said Mindy Smith, VP Pharmacy Practice Innovation at PrescribeWellness. “Our Advisory Board’s expertise plays a significant role in driving these initiatives.”
