Christian Leaders Mobilize Against Budget Cuts that Impact Hungry, Poor People

WASHINGTON--()--For the first time since the start of the Trump administration, leaders from Christian families across the theological and political spectrum have come to oppose budget cuts that would harm people living in hunger and poverty. The leaders will be flying in from across the country to personally deliver their message.

The Christian leaders belong to the Circle of Protection. They will release a statement during a press conference on Wednesday, June 21 at 9:30 a.m. at the National Press Club – Zenger Room. Following the press conference, the leaders will go to Capitol Hill to meet with members of Congress.

The Trump administration has proposed major cuts to programs for people who are poor, hungry, weak, sick, and vulnerable. This includes cuts to programs such as SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, formerly food stamps), Medicaid, and foreign assistance.

The Circle of Protection believes that budgets are moral documents, and calls on “political leaders in the House and the Senate to express their faith convictions in their votes.”
