NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Bank Leumi announced today that it has made three key hires to its growing legal team in recent months. Christopher Gawley was appointed First Vice President in May, while Gerri Alfino and Sol Bernstein recently joined the bank as Executive Vice President, General Counsel & Corporate Secretary, and First Vice President, respectively.
Gawley will provide legal counsel to Leumi Investment Services (LISI), Leumi’s brokerage subsidiary, across areas including sales and trading, marketing, research, compliance and new product review. He will also work with Leumi’s private banking and special loans divisions. Gawley was previously counsel and Head of Litigation for Leumi. Alfino manages Leumi’s legal department, partnering with the bank’s business teams to help advance its strategic vision. She also advises President & CEO Avner Mendelson as well as Leumi’s Board of Directors and senior management team. Bernstein serves as the bank’s in-house transactional lending attorney, while also supporting Leumi’s commercial banking, special loans, international private banking and domestic private banking divisions.
“A strong legal team is essential for any bank, and we are thrilled to have Gerri, Sol and Christopher on board to provide counsel and strategic advice across our business teams,” said Mendelson. “Their combined experience will allow us to concentrate on expanding our U.S. operations while continuing to provide our commercial and private banking clients with high-touch, customized service.”
Alfino, Bernstein and Gawley all have extensive legal experience within financial services. Both Gawley and Alfino came to Leumi from Morgan Stanley, where Gawley was Executive Director and represented the bank and its financial advisors as counsel for the litigation department. As a consultant for Morgan Stanley, Alfino conducted a risk assessment of the organization’s commercial real estate and fixed income businesses. Bernstein was previously Associate General Counsel for Citibank’s commercial banking group, where he represented the bank during the launch of its asset-based lending unit.
Alfino received her Juris Doctor from Fordham University School of Law and Bachelor of Arts from the State University of New York at Stony Brook. Bernstein holds a Juris Doctor from Duke University School of Law and Bachelor of Arts from Brandeis University.
