The global tea market is divided into four major geographies - Asia Pacific, Europe, North America and Rest of the World. As of 2016, globally, per capita consumption of tea is highest in Turkey, followed by Ireland, the United Kingdom, Russia and Morocco.

On the other hand Tamil Nadu experienced a drop in production by 3.54% year-on-year due to severe drought. Kerala's drop in production by 15.73% was due to erratic weather conditions and labour unrest.
