AASECT Turns 50: Still Sexy After All These Years!

WASHINGTON--()--This year, the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists (AASECT www.aasect.org) turns 50 and will celebrate its historic birthday in Las Vegas at its Annual Conference, where the theme, Honoring Our Past, Celebrating the Present and Envisioning Our Future, seeks to reflect on the roots of the organization’s family tree.

Sex has changed a lot over the last five decades and AASECT and its members have been there every step of the way. AASECT members worked closely with the pioneering sex researchers Masters and Johnson to regulate the then-emerging field of sex therapy, as well as discovering and documenting the infamous G-spot. AASECT denounced gay reparative therapy and, most recently, debunked the myth of sex addiction. AASECT was born during the sexual revolution and continues to champion the latest clinical techniques, research applications and educational approaches in the field of sexual science.

Founded in 1967, AASECT’s mission is still as important as ever. In a year in which the rights of sexual minorities are being increasingly challenged, vital organizations like Planned Parenthood face de-funding, and the state of Utah declares pornography a public health hazard, AASECT remains vigilant about supporting those issues pertaining to sexual health and sexual rights wherever and whenever the opinion of the professional expertise that we represent might exert a positive influence.

As AASECT celebrates its 50th Anniversary as the leading national body of sexuality professionals, we invite the Press and Media to reflect with us upon our meaningful history while also looking boldly into the future of sexuality.

The 49th AASECT Annual Conference, June 15 – 18, 2017 will be held at the Green Valley Ranch Resort, Spa & Casino in Las Vegas, NV. http://www.aasect.org/49th-annual-conference.
