TeamViewer’s New Native Linux Host Now Comes with Wake-On-LAN

  • New Preview Adds New Features to Address Crucial Help Desk Requirements

TAMPA, Fla.--()--TeamViewer®, a leading global software provider for digital networking and collaboration, today announces the availability of a new preview version of its Linux Host, following the introduction of native Linux support. The new release addresses additional critical system administrator requirements, including support of Wake-On-LAN, assignment of TeamViewer accounts via GUI and additional regulation capabilities. The updated preview is available now.

Support of Wake-On-LAN

The new version allows users to wake up Linux devices, as long as they are in standby mode and connected to a power supply. Additionally, the mainboard, network card and power management of the Linux device need to support Wake-On-LAN.

Account Assignment via GUI

Linux devices can now be assigned to an existing TeamViewer account via the TeamViewer client. Account owners can share their contacts with each other to support the wider team as well as maintain devices around the clock for 24/7 support. As usual, TeamViewer accounts with two factor authentication will be supported.

Setting “Confirm all” for additional security

Additional safety precautions with the use of the Linux Host can now be provided through the access control settings. Users can ensure that all actions must be directly confirmed from that device. To enable this users have to select the option “Confirm all” in the “Remote Control“ menu of the “Advance settings for connections to this computer” section.

Changes require administrative rights

The latest update of the Linux Host means that access to the TeamViewer settings can now be restricted to system administrators with a single click by checking the box “Changes require administrative rights on this computer“ under “Advanced“ in the “TeamViewer options“ section.

Native Linux support and system requirements

The new Linux Host was first released at the beginning of May 2017, when TeamViewer abandoned WINE for the first time and launched a native Linux support. The TeamViewer Linux Host requires at least Qt 5.2, Linux Kernel 2.6.27 and GLIBC 2.17.
