Bolton Foundation ‘Throw Down’ Cornhole Tournament Raises Nearly $110,000 for California Nonprofits

PASADENA, Calif.--()--One hundred twenty teams hit the historic Rose Bowl turf on May 9 to compete in The Bolton Foundation “Throw Down,” a daylong cornhole tournament that raised approximately $110,000 for California nonprofits.

Now in its third year, the event created by the philanthropic arm of Bolton & Company invites local businesses, industry partners and employees to participate in the organization’s largest annual fundraising effort.

“I’m amazed to see how much this event has grown in just three years,” said Mike Morey, Bolton Chief Operating Officer and Foundation Chairman. “The increasing support we receive with every Throw Down is really inspiring, and it drives us to make each tournament bigger and better than the one before it—and this was no exception.”

This year’s event also introduced the Bolton Foundation Beacon award ceremony, which highlights four select nonprofit organizations annually for the positive impact they make within the communities they serve. The pre-tournament reception recognized San Gabriel Valley Habitat for Humanity, Union Station Homeless Services, Lake Avenue Community Foundation and Foothill Unity Center, and each nonprofit was awarded $10,000 in grant funding.

Money raised during the Throw Down is generated through participation fees and sponsorship opportunities, and it is used to provide grant funding for future Bolton Foundation Beacons, in addition to smaller donations provided to select nonprofits throughout the year.

“Giving back to the local community is something we truly believe in,” said Bolton President and CEO Steve Brockmeyer. “This year we took that commitment a step further, closed our offices and provided a day where all of our employees could have the opportunity to get involved with this amazing cause and have some fun in the process.”
