Time Inc.’s Fortune and Time Launch the CEO Initiative

CEOs of Companies Committed to Addressing Major Social Issues as Part of Core Business Strategies to Convene in New York in September 2017

NEW YORK--()--Time Inc.’s (NYSE:TIME) Fortune and Time are launching the CEO Initiative, a new initiative for the CEOs of companies committed to addressing major social issues as part of their core business strategies, it was announced today by Alan Murray, Time Inc. Chief Content Officer and President of Fortune. The CEO Initiative will convene for its first meeting on September 25, 2017, and will build upon the efforts Fortune and Time began last year at the Fortune/Time Global Forum with Pope Francis at the Vatican while also tapping into the impact of Fortune’s “Change the World” list of companies that are “doing well by doing good.”

Salesforce is the Founding Partner sponsor of the CEO Initiative.

With the initiative, CEOs will exchange best practices and leadership techniques, develop actionable solutions, and track tangible progress. The CEO Initiative is specifically designed for businesses that want to put a broader purpose at the core of their profit-making activities. In addition, Fortune and Time will leverage each of their media platforms to spotlight worthy examples of corporate leadership. The event is by invitation only.

“We were heartened by the work done by the 100 CEOs we convened at the Vatican last December to deliberate on actions they could take to address pressing social problems. And we have been encouraged by entreaties from a number of business leaders, especially Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff, that we continue these efforts,” said Murray. “Today, it’s clear that a growing group of enlightened CEOs understand that the purpose of business has to extend well beyond making profits for shareholders. Their employees, their customers, and the public at large are demanding more of them. And they are rising to the challenge.”

The CEO Initiative’s steering committee includes: Ajay Banga, President and CEO, Mastercard; Dominic Barton, Global Managing Partner, McKinsey & Company; Greg Becker, President and CEO, Silicon Valley Bank; Chip Bergh, President and CEO, Levi Strauss & Co.; Roger Crandall, Chairman, President, and CEO, MassMutual Financial Group; Erik Fyrwald, CEO, Syngenta; Dan Glaser, President and CEO, Marsh & McLennan Companies Inc.; Carlos Gomes da Silva, CEO, Galp Energia SGPS, S.A.; Hugh Grant, Chairman and CEO, Monsanto; Joe Kaesar, CEO, Siemens AG; Marc Lautenbach, President and CEO, Pitney Bowes Inc.; Thomas Quinlan, Chairman and CEO, LSC Communications; Dan Schulman, President and CEO, Paypal Inc.; Hamdi Ulukaya, Founder and CEO, Chobani; Tom Wilson, Chairman and CEO, Allstate Corp.; and more.

The 2017 “Change the World” list will be available in the September 15 special double issue of Fortune and on Fortune.com.

The CEO Initiative will kick off a year of in-depth exchanges, feature stories, digital explorations, and social media conversations with Time and Fortune that will explore how companies can do well by doing good. This gathering—one of more than a dozen live events produced annually by Fortune Live Media—joins such high-profile events as Fortune Most Powerful Women, Fortune Brainstorm Tech, Fortune Brainstorm Health, and the Fortune Global Forum.
