US Market Report for AV Fistula Needles Report 2017 - Push Toward AV Fistula & Away from Catheters will be a Major Driver - Research and Markets

DUBLIN--()--Research and Markets has announced the addition of the "US Market Report for AV Fistula Needles 2017 - MedCore" report to their offering.

An AV fistula needle enables access to the patient's circulatory system and permits the flow of blood from the patient, to the dialyzer's blood compartment and then back into the patient's bloodstream. An AV fistula needle is used for patients with either an AV fistula or an AV graft; however, they are not required for patients implanted with a dialysis catheter.

The fistula first objective is to improve the quality of life and survival of hemodialysis patients through optimizing the selection of vascular access. The majority of patients will benefit most through AV fistula access. AV fistula lowers mortality rates, hospitalization and infection while minimizing costs. The push toward AV fistula and away from catheters will be a major driver of growth for the AV fistula needle market. Peritoneal dialysis does not require the use of AV fistula needles.

Thus, the trend towards peritoneal dialysis will erode the number of hemodialysis patients and the amount of hemodialysis equipment sold. The market share and use of AV fistula needles are projected to decrease proportional to the number of patients transitioning from hemodialysis to peritoneal dialysis.
