MELBOURNE, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS) has achieved Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver Certification for its new Global Innovation Center – a state-of-the-art, interactive technology showcase located in Melbourne. LEED is an internationally recognized green building certification program that honors best-in-class building practices and strategies.
The center received the certification for energy and environmental efficiency. Elements that were highlighted include:
- Optimized energy performance – 35% better than standards
- Efficient water fixtures and irrigation – 40% better than standards
- Construction waste reuse and management – saving over 50% of debris from landfills
- Reflective roof installation to reduce solar heat
- Ten percent reuse of resources and recycled content
