Bias Documentary Launches Indiegogo Crowdfunding Campaign

Documentary Examines How Unconscious Bias Affects Our Workplaces and Society;

New Film from Robin Hauser Follows Her Award-Winning CODE: Debugging the Gender Gap

SAN FRANCISCO--()--To raise funds for their upcoming film, bias, director and producer Robin Hauser and cause-based documentary production house Unleashed Productions, Inc. and Finish Line Features, LLC have launched an Indiegogo campaign. Bias is an informative, impactful and entertaining film that examines unconscious bias and how it affects choices in hiring, equal pay and opportunity, and funding for entrepreneurs.

Through revealing anecdotes and potent testimony from experts, bias explores the causes and results of implicit bias and how “following our gut” can impede diversity and stymie creativity. The film delves into the history and scientific study of unconscious bias, while looking into the future of brain science and machine learning for a view of what to expect next.

“By understanding more about our hidden biases, we can develop practices and systems to mitigate them, and create diverse, inclusive and high-performing workplaces and communities,” said Hauser. “Because bias is a community issue, the crowdfunding aspect is critical to build momentum and support to educate about the issue and begin to address it.”

Bias goes beyond the latest Silicon Valley headlines to share the perspective of what it’s really like to be the only woman in the room. With a behind-the-scenes lens, bias showcases the challenges and obstacles for women seeking startup funding when less than 10 percent of VC funds are awarded to women founders and only 1 percent are awarded to African-American founders. Bias follows individuals as they pitch their startups to venture capital panels and witnesses the deliberation process.

The film will feature powerful voices from many of the world’s foremost technology and consumer goods companies, as well as investors and academics. The film includes interviews with Stacy Brown Philpot of TaskRabbit, Freada Kapor Klein of the Kapor Center for Social Impact, Iris Bohnet of Harvard Kennedy School of Government, Leslie Miley of Venture for America, Sam Altman of Y-Combinator, Aileen Lee of Cowboy Ventures, and scholars Anthony Greenwald and Mahzarin Banaji, creators of the Implicit Association Test.

Hauser’s most recent award-winning film, CODE: Debugging the Gender Gap, premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival 2015, and has screened at the White House, in 55 countries, at over 275 educational institutions, and at over 400 companies and organizations.

At varying levels of support, backers of the bias Indiegogo campaign can receive access to behind-the-scenes stories from the making of the film, time with the producers, tickets to premiere screenings in the film’s home base of San Francisco, and early access to the film itself.

With a goal to raise $50,000, the Indiegogo fundraising campaign will run through April. Bias is currently in full production, and a teaser trailer for the film is available for preview at http://www.biasfilm.com/.

Bias will premiere in 2018. To participate in the crowdfunding or to learn more, visit https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/bias-film.
