BELLEVUE, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Overlake Medical Center announced today it is the top hospital for Value-Based Purchasing in the Puget Sound region for the second year in a row. The rankings are based on a host of federal quantitative measures related to patient experience, quality of care, and overall value. Statewide, Overlake is the leading large-scale medical center.
The rating program – formally called the Medicare Value-Based Purchasing – is a part of the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). The objective of the program is to structure how CMS reimburses healthcare providers by rewarding them for the quality, safety and cost of care. Private sector insurers’ reimbursement rates are also based on these results. Institutions are ranked in comparison to other healthcare providers.
“The Value-Based Purchasing evaluation process is one of the most comprehensive measures for hospital rankings,” said Chief Executive Officer J. Michael Marsh. “These results are directly due to our committed medical staff, exceptional nurses, and the disciplined processes we have in place to ensure high-quality care and a positive experience for our patients.”
Metrics used by CMS to determine the rankings include patient safety, readmission and infection rates, cost of care, and input from patients, which includes such factors as pain management, communications with doctors and nurses, hospital cleanliness and responsiveness of staff.
“We are pleased with the findings of this robust and thorough evaluation,” said Chief Medical Officer David Knoepfler. “The criteria gives insurers and patients alike an impartial look at a hospital’s value. The bottom line is this ranking affirms that Overlake is delivering the highest quality care and the best patient experience.”
