WESTMOUNT, Quebec--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The City of Westmount’s pay-by-plate integration is coming up on its first year. The initial investment has proven to be beneficial not only in terms of enforcement but also in terms of collecting data. With over 900,000 transactions registered by over 150,000 different cars, Westmount can now better plan for future parking needs.
Westmount was already working with gtechna on its back-end e-ticketing system and chose to partner with them again on this innovative pay-by-plate initiative. The parking enforcement app is integrated directly with the ticket processing system. This, and the option to deploy a mix of Android devices has helped create a more dynamic and productive environment. “Delivering a solution that helps make parking more efficient is a priority,” stated Westmount City Councillor Philip Cutler. “As we move forward, pay-by-plate will enable the city to expand their management tools in order to incorporate resident parking permits. There are so many exciting opportunities to leverage the data to better manage the city.”
The pay-by-plate system has garnered attention from multiple cities as well as the “Excellence in Transport Grand Prize” competition in the category of “Mobility Intelligence”. This is only the first step for gtechna and Westmount. Up next on the agenda is breaking ground on phase two. Westmount aims to be a pioneer and first adopter of new technology. The second phase would focus on expanding throughout the city, removing stickers for annual parking and adding license plate recognition cameras to vehicles for enforcement.
gtechna develops e-Ticket software and parking management solutions to help governments and parking operators leverage technology to better serve its citizens. Twenty years of successful collaborations with leading cities such as Seattle, WA, Pittsburgh, PA, Washington D.C., Baltimore, MD and Banff, AB have led to the company’s expansion into international markets such as Colombo, Sri Lanka. gtechna is a division of ACCEO Solutions Inc.
