BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Boston Red Sox have teamed up with the Museum of Science, Boston, in a first-of-its-kind, multi-year partnership between two iconic Boston institutions that will bring baseball-inspired STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) content to the more than 70,000 members of Red Sox Kid Nation, the team’s fan club for fans 14 and under. From Fenway Park to Science Park, the Red Sox and the Museum of Science will collaborate on family-friendly programs, activities and events throughout the year.
“As part of our effort to connect baseball to the next generation of fans, we have broadened our outreach and partnerships to ensure we connect with kids in new and unique ways,” said Red Sox Executive Vice President Troup Parkinson. “Our partnership with the Museum of Science, Boston, will introduce baseball to kids through the sciences and hopefully spark a love of learning and a love for baseball.”
In collaboration with the Red Sox, the Museum of Science, a national leader in STEM education, will contribute to the development of integrated baseball and science content into Wally & Tessie’s STEM Workbook which will be made available later this season during home games at Fenway’s Kid Nation booth and at Wally’s Clubhouse, housed in the Champion’s Club. Both the Kid Nation booth and Wally’s Clubhouse are located on the Kids Concourse near Gate B.
In addition to expanding and enhancing the workbook content, the Museum of Science will develop a Red Sox-themed Design Challenge, the Museum’s signature hands-on experience that introduces visitors to the engineering design process. Design Challenges, which are aimed at students grades four through 10 as well as family groups, guide participants as they create, build and test their prototypes to solve an engineering design problem.
To kick off the partnership, the Museum will be holding its first ever Red Sox Weekend on April 29th and 30th. In addition to Red Sox and baseball-themed STEM activities throughout the Museum, the Red Sox team mascot, Wally the Green Monster, will be on-site greeting kids of all ages.
