Gryphon House Releases Creative Investigations in Early Math

LEWISVILLE, N.C.--()--Preschool teachers can support early mathematics by using guided inquiry and cultivating a supportive environment where preschool math learning can thrive, according to a new book from Gryphon House, Inc. Creative Investigations in Early Math is a new approach to early childhood math education, outlining fresh strategies for teaching math to young children and promoting mathematical thinking for children ages 3–5.

The book by Angela Eckhoff, PhD, shows teachers how to support math through promoting conversations using mathematical language and providing opportunities for children to explore, play and imagine, all in the context of math.

“Math is frequently underrepresented in pre-K classrooms so I wanted to create lessons that teachers could feel comfortable with while also encouraging children's play and creativity,” Eckhoff said. “I organized the book to provide the background for core mathematics concepts, and then I laid out how to create engaging math activities that support number and number sense, computation, geometry, measurement, statistics, patterns and relationships.”

Creative Investigations in Early Math will be widely available June 1, 2017. The book is available for preorder now. To request a free excerpt or e-galley copy, contact anna@ghbooks.com.
