CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Holden O’Neal, senior associate software developer at the SAS Institute, is the grand prize winner of the SHARE® San Jose HackZone challenge. The challenge, sponsored by SHARE, IBM and Rocket Software, was open to all event attendees Saturday, March 4 through Friday, March 17.
The HackZone featured opportunities for participants of all skill levels to overcome challenges leveraging the power z Systems in Application Development. Participants used IBM Bluemix, APIs delivered via z/OS Connect, Apache Spark on z/OS and more to complete challenges. Forty-six attendees participated in one or more challenges during the two-week period.
“IBM Bluemix, APIs delivered via z/OS Connect, and Apache Spark on z/OS are some big topics that are up and coming in the enterprise computing community. It’s tough to get all the needed resources set up on your own to be able to actually run some code and see results,” O’Neal said. “I think the HackZone provides an amazing gateway for individuals to learn and better understand these technologies in a hands-on way.”
HackZone sponsors provided in-person support at SHARE San Jose, where the challenge began in the event’s Technology Exchange Expo. Attendees were able to complete challenges online through the end of the following week.
Throughout the competition, participant progress was tracked on the HackZone leader board, and top performers as of the end of the day on March 17 were awarded prizes. As the grand prize winner, O’Neal will receive a complimentary registration to the SHARE Providence event, August 6-11, at the Rhode Island Convention Center in Providence, R.I.
SHARE hosted its first HackZone competition in collaboration with IBM and Rocket Software at its SHARE Atlanta event in the summer of 2016. Read a full interview with O’Neal on the mindSHARE blog.
