KANSAS CITY, Mo.--()--Tension Packaging & Automation is introducing two new, improved order-fulfillment systems, BoxSizer™ and Pack+Sort, in Booth No. S134 at the ProMat trade show, April 3-6, at McCormick Place in Chicago.

Both innovative systems are designed for direct-to-consumer order-fulfillment distribution centers.

Manufactured by Linkx Packaging Systems in the U.K., BoxSizer is a fully automated packaging system that mitigates rising dimensional (DIM) weight upcharges. By significantly reducing box height and size, shippers don’t end up paying for air or extra void fill.

Because it can be set up as a standalone system, BoxSizer is a less expensive option than expanding to multiple carton lines. The system uses standard cartons, which shippers are free to purchase from their own suppliers since no contract is required for consumables.

BoxSizer operates using a three-step process: (1) measuring the empty space left in each carton, (2) cutting the corners, scoring and crimping the sides, and (3) folding down flaps, and gluing and taping the reduced-size box. Up to 15 cartons per minute can be processed, depending on the in-feed format, products being packaged and carton size. See Linkx video at https://goo.gl/zPr8Cl.

Pack+Sort also is set up as a separate ergonomic, horizontal polybagging and sorting system, opening up the carton line for increased capacity. This helps eliminate the problem of polybags getting hung up in the carton conveyor and not weighing correctly. An optional weigh scale is available for weight verification.

Up to three horizontal polybagging systems on each sort line can be programed to sort for multiple carriers and varying service levels.

Tension Packaging & Automation also offers other automated options for distribution centers including conveyors, polybag and carton-sorting systems, and print-and-apply manifesting lines.
