(NYSE:NEWR) today announced that REI, the nation’s largest outdoor co-op, has deployed the New Relic Digital Intelligence Platform to get full-stack visibility and optimize its digital experiences, helping members and customers enjoy the outdoors.
For REI, a multi-channel approach is key for reaching its members where they are and for helping to provide all the facets needed to enjoy the outdoors: quality gear, a great in-store experience, expertise, and community. In order to deliver on the promise of a great digital customer experience, REI has turned to New Relic to make sure that all of its apps and websites are consistently fast, available, and easy to use – especially on its busiest days.
REI has used New Relic’s application performance monitoring (APM), real-time dashboards and alerts to develop a common set of metrics for understanding their digital performance in real time. They have over 30 New Relic dashboards around the office, helping REI’s teams collaborate on problem-solving, product iteration, and understanding business metrics such as orders per hour. With New Relic, the company estimates that it has seen an approximately 20-percent increase in performance improvements on its websites and mobile apps, and a 50-percent reduction in production incidents.
In the last two years, the almost 80-year-old business has focused on modernizing its technology stack to deliver new digital experiences to its members. REI has focused on shifting to microservices, adopting a DevOps structure, and moving to continuous deployment. The company has also moved to a multi-cloud environment, leveraging AWS and Microsoft Azure to get quicker access to new functionality and capabilities provided by the public cloud. As REI has evolved its tech stack and approach to delivering software, the team has looked to New Relic to provide a unified source of information for the REI technical team, for everyone from software and infrastructure engineers and ops to QA and customer analytics.
