ARLINGTON, Va.--()--Educators can get authentic teacher perspectives on what it takes to plunge into the world of science learning and teaching from Dive In! Immersion in Science Practices for High School Students. This new NSTA Press book provides detailed examples of how veteran teachers and their students implement the recommendations of A Framework for K–12 Science Education and the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS).

Dive In! grew out of a teacher–scientist project at the University of New Hampshire that promoted active learning and using science practices in the classroom. The resulting book is a resource to help teachers enable students to shift from merely knowing about science to actually investigating and making sense of it.

Features include vignettes of students conducting investigations and teachers integrating science practices that support the NGSS. Field-tested learning activities accompany many of the vignettes and illustrate investigations teachers can adopt or adapt, regardless of grade level or science content focus.

In addition, a science practice integration (SPI) toolkit helps teachers modify existing lesson plans to immerse their students in more science practices. A trouble-shooting guide offers potential solutions to teachers who need help with SPI.
